Thanks books – Hongdae
Even if it’s a little dark because of the somber weather, inside of the store was cozy and sweet. With the styled interior design, you can feel this store is not the ordinary one. Meticulously selected books are displayed by the category. Actually this local bookstore is already well known to the Hongdae people. It’s small but substantial.
Categories like essays, novels and magazines… looks like same with the ordinary book store, but if you look through the books one by one, it’s totally different. This store is dealing with the publishing company directly, so it’s good to see the rare books. One staff was cleaning the books and other goods on the table very carefully and continuously.
Regarding to the feature of this area, the people who are visiting this store look different, too. They’re walking around, looking for the books they want, sitting on the comfortable chair, reading it and having some coffee … those people make the scene themselves.
Not only the books, but also there are the miscellaneous design goods, like notebook cases, bags, wallets and stationaries. North European music CDs and unique cards on the corner are also the items you should watch. You can’t help buying something whatever it is in this store. Like me, I got something I didn’t need but it was so pretty, so I got it and put down over and over again, thinking ‘buy it? or not?’.
The 2nd floor was blocked for the next exhibition. It’s about illustration, photographs, typography, etc. One of the wall was filled with some geometry and letters. It was also the exhibition of the artist, Kim Tae-hyun who’s typographic designer. He explained his work on the wall and his book was displayed on the table in the center. Hole space is used variously in the multiple ways.
